Children's culture week Satusivellin
The main idea of this event is to offer all fairytale lovers and their families a possibility to participate in a culture event for children in the peace of the countryside with plenty of programme for everybody. This event also aims to maintain the tradition of storytelling. Satusivellin takes place every year in the week following Midsummer in Karstula and the surrounding municipalities. The programme includes art camps for the children and the youth, a storytelling competition and lots of other interesting things for children to do. The event honours the beloved Finnish storyteller Kylli Koski.

  International Shooting Week
The local hunting and shooting association KarMAS arranges every year a weeklong shooting competition, which begins in the weekend following Midsummer and the participants of which come from all over Europe. Hundreds of young and adult people, who are interested in shooting, come to Karstula to participate in this event. The classes are e.g. skeet, trap, auto trap, small bore rifle (prone and positions), air rifle as well as sport, centre fire, air, rapid fire, pistol and standard pistol. We wish you welcome to get acquainted with the friends of shooting sport and to enjoy the Finnish summer in Karstula.

Local Festival of Karstula
Every year in the beginning of July the culture department of the municipality arranges the Local Festival of Karstula. In this event the Resident of the Year, i.e. the person whose cultural contribution has been remarkable or who has made Karstula either nationally or internationally well-known, is awarded the title of Kopes.

  The Finnish Championship in Snowmobile Enduro
As far as the number of participants is concerned the Snowmobile Enduro arranged by the local snowmobile association Kouheron Kelkkailijat ry is one of the biggest races in Finland. The race takes place traditionally in the surroundings of Lomakouhero at the end of February. The members of Kouheron Kelkkailijat have also played an active role in establishing a network of snowmobile routes in the Northern Central Finland.

  Folk race
No matter if it is rainy or sunny, Karstulan Urheiluautoilijat, the local automobile association, arranges twice a year (in July and September) a folk race at the local race track Vallitien Vauhtirata. These events are very popular, as almost in every race there are more than one hundred participants. The spectators have not been forgotten either, as a seating area, café and kiosk are available for them. Competition classes: general, front wheel/rear wheel drive, juniors and ladies.

  Karstula International Music Week and Puu Soi Concerts
The International Music Week of Karstula is arranged every year traditionally at the turn of July and August. The artists are among the best in their fields, mainly singers, guitarists and string players. There are also performances of music students who have gathered together in Karstula in order to participate in a music camp arranged at the same time. Puu soi, a series of concerts offers fantastic experiences of classical music in the summer nights of Karstula. For a music lover it is an event absolutely worth experiencing.

  Christmas Street Opening
The opening of the Christmas Street at the end of November is the official start for Christmas in Karstula. Mulled wine and grilled sausages taste delicious and children feel like singing. A lottery, for which the local shops and companies have donated the prizes, is an important part of the programme. The opening of the Christmas Street is an entertaining event for the whole family.
  Open air theatre
The theatre life is very active in Karstula. Especially in the summer period theatre plays are performed e.g. in Nurkkateatteri, Wanhat Wehkeet and Vastinki Youth Association House. Karstula summer theatre, Virkku Group, Karstula Theatre Society and the team of Vastinki Youth Association and Lomakouhero summer theatre are in charge of the shows.   Christmast Fair
In the middle of December it is time to buy Christmas gifts at the Christmas Fair which is held in the sports hall of Laaksola school. Products made by the local companies and private persons are for sale at the fair. The Christmas Fair is one of the oldest and most popular events in Karstula and it gathers a large number of visitors every year.
