You can recall the wartime events and admire the collections in one of the best museums of local history and culture. The Lotta-collection (Lotta = member of The Women’s Auxiliary Services) at Kruukkila museum illustrates the life of women during the war time.   Car Museum Wanhat Wehkeet
The museum is full of memories from the good old times and offers all ages a lot of exciting things to see. More than 100 old vehicles, an old time classroom, old cameras and radios among other things will help you to take a time trip into the past. The spacious conference and banquet facilities are available for meetings and private events. The new sauna and bathing facilities offer groups of all sizes enjoyment and stress relief.   Domestic Animal Farm Villikili
What is countryside without animals – nothing!
In Villikili you can get to know farmhouse animals. You can give a scratch to Kasperi-goat, the farmhouse mascot, take riding lessons or participate in camps where you learn to tend animals. Opening hours: Tu-Su 11.00 – 18.00, Mo closed. Entrance fee: 5 €. Childrens’ one-day camp: 30 € including a warm meal, a snack and all day outdoor activities with adult instruction. Riding for children and adults: Nice, little and a little bit bigger ponies are available for riding. Lessons on request 10/15 €. Riding on a lead rope 2 € (16.00 – 18.00 daily). Pony carriage driving 10 €. Camps and hiking trips. Spend a summer night in a barn or in a cottage.

Ahosen Taimisto
The plant shop and nursery Ahosen Taimisto (founded in 1951) is growing perennial decorative and useful plants which are suitable for Central Finland and even for Lappland. Their sortiment includes shrubs, trees, climbing plants, perennials and useful plants. 36 hectares of cultivated land. Bus tours for groups possible if agreed in advance.
Opening hours: Spring season until midsummer Mo-Fri 7.30 – 19.00, Sa-Su 10.00 – 15.00, summer season until 9.8. Mo-Fri 7.30 – 16.00, Sa 10.00 – 15.00, autumn season from 10.8.   Karstula Museum of Local History and Culture
Karstula Museum is one of the best in Finland among museums of local history and culture. A collection of appr. 2000 items illustrates the life in Karstula region in the 19th century during and after the Finnish War. The museum is an interesting place to visit for the whole family. Open in July, other times as separately agreed. Entrance fee.

  Karstula Orthodox Chapel
The orthodox chapel was completed in 1985. This work of art was built by the local log house manufacturer Honkarakenne and its design is a variation of Seppo Latvala’s chapel model. The chapel was consecrated on 25.8.1985 by Bishop Tiihon of Joensuu. Karstula orthodox chapel is dedicated to the memory of Virgin Mary. The icons of the chapel have been painted by Jyrki Pouta.
  Karstula church  
The empire style church from the 19th century was designed by architect A.F. Granstedt and built by building master Jaakko Kuorikoski. The work was completed in 1853 and the church was consecrated in 1861. The bell tower close to the church is from year 1815 and was built by Simo Juvelin. The altarpiece of the church illustrates Jesus Christ teaching the multitudes from the boat by the lake Gennesaret. It has been painted by Pekka Halonen in early 1900’s.

  The Stones of Otto von Fieandt 
The Stones of Otto von Fieandt are a monument to the battle between the Swedish and the Russians. In spite of the loss suffered by the Swedish troops this battle was one of the crucial moments of the Finnish War, and it was fought on 21.8.1808 at Enonjoki. The Swedish troops were led by Otto von Fieandt and the monument has been named after him. Another memorial of the battle is Fieandt’s stable which is located in the courtyard of the Evangelical Folk High School. In the municipality house Himmeli there is a 2,2 times enlarged replica of Fiendt’s pipe, which according to stories was almost more than life to the leader of the troops.
  Karstulan Suoja, the House of the National Guard
The House of the National Guard, Karstulan Suoja, is an important place for many of the local residents. It has been a centre for the national defence and various sport activities not to mention the old days’ traditional weddings. Outside the house there is a monument, a 105 mm Howitzer, in honour of the war veterans. The unveiling ceremony of the monument took place on 18.6.2001, exactly 60 years after the day when the men from Karstula gathered at Suoja for leaving to the front. Today the house is owned by the local sports association Karstulan Kiva. It serves the residents of Karstula as a cinema and a bingo hall as well as a location for family occasions and events.

  Kruukkila 
Kruukkila house from the middle of the 19th century is a uniform, regionally valuable farmhouse complex. The so called Karstula house has a significant role in the history of Karstula parish. Over the years the house has witnessed the life of the village and it has been used for various purposes. Today the buildings and the courtyard of Kruukkila are locations for parties and events. Kruukkila is an interesting place to visit, as upstairs in the main building there is a Lotta-collection (Lotta = member of the women’s auxiliary services) which illustrates the life of women during the war time.

  Lotta and National Guard Collections 
One of the best Finnish Lotta-collections is shown in Kruukkila house. Among the specialities is an almost perfect collection of tableware with Lotta Svärd emblem and the name Karstula. Another rarity is the Book of America, which is a collection of Finnish and English newspaper clippings from the war time. Visits by appointment. Entrance fee.

  Gallery Himmeli
Gallery Himmeli exhibiting local art is located in the entrance floor of the municipality house. The monthly changing exhibitions offer the local artists (photographers, artisans, painters) as well as groups of students and school children a possibility to show their work. The opening hours are the same as those of the municipality house, Mon-Fri from 8.00 to 15.00. In July the gallery is closed.

  Karstula Handicraft House 
In the shop of the handicraft house there is a large collection of handmade gifts, e.g. rugs, carpets, shawls, poppana and wooden products as well as souvenirs of Karstula. There are also many types of materials available in the shop for those who are interested in making handicrafts themselves. If you want to try weaving, there are looms at your disposal in the handicraft house. During the summer months (June-August) the tourist information office of Karstula is in the handicraft house..

  Riuttasalmi bridge
The best know land mark of Karstula is the bridge of Riuttasalmi, which was built in 1968. The Langer Girder type bridge is made of steel and in Central Finland similar bridges can be found in Äänekoski, Suolahti and Konnevesi. The length of the arch at the road level is 80 metres and height 12 metres. The bridge is located appr. 2 km from the village centre in Keuruu direction.
  Old Village Shop 
The atmosphere of a genuine old times’ shop can be found at the Old Village Shop of O.E. Kantanen, which is located at the road towards Kokkola. This shop is the only one of its kind in Karstula region. They are selling foodstuffs as well as supplies for hiking, fishing and hunting.

  Kirkkovuoren Observation Tower
The observation tower built in honour of the 50th anniversary of LC Karstula is located on top of the Pääjärvenmäki hill. You can enjoy a breathtaking view over Pääjärvi lake towards the village centre from he tower which is more than 20 metres high. The tower will be opened for tourists after an official inauguration ceremony on 28.6.2008.
